The Society secured our first victory of 2019 with a 5/3 win over the gentlemen of West Sussex. Richard Baker's side went into lunch with the scores level at 2 all, after Richard Baker & Laurie Evans and John Shepherd & Tim Wren secured excellent victories in the blustery conditions. Pulborough (as West Sussex is commonly known) was in superb condition despite the wind and generally the standard of golf was good throughout. After a magnificent lunch, the teams ventured out again and we secured the match through wins for Richard Baker & Nigel Ross, Tim Wren & Ted Rose and John Shepherd & Chris Goldie to carry us over the line. Special mention should be made to Jon Hardy who managed to make the afternoon's play despite a 47 hour journey from India. Our thanks also to Laurie Evans who stepped in at the last minute to stand in for Jon, despite having only just returned from his very successful stint in the Pakistan Super League! Our hosts could not have been more hospitable and it was truly a pleasure to be back at West Sussex after a gap of a few years. We very much look forward to returning in 2020.
