The Society's second match of 2021 saw us visit Royal Ashdown Forest to take on the Ladies of that great club in 7 foursomes matches on the Old Course. 3/1 down in the series, we needed to be at our best and so it proved as we triumphed 5 and a half / 1 and a half to take the honours. There were victories for Charlie Rowe & Jonny Longley, Mike Gatting & Craig Jones, Richard Baker & Guy McDonnell, Paul Parker & Ted Rose and Melville Guest & Jon Hardy. Chairman, Tony Pigott and Tim Smith took a half whilst our only defeat was felt by yours truly and Neil Burns who capitulated on the 16th and 17th having fought our way back twice from two down! Burnsie's decision to try out his new right-handed putting technique for the first time on a golf course was something of a challenge but worth perservering with (perhaps!).
An excellent lunch was followed by a few of our team, accompanied by some of our hosts, taking on some extra holes on the West Course. Despite having been badly affected by the weather of recent times, Royal Ashdown was, as ever, glorious and we were blessed with lovely sunny weather - a rare treat so far this year.
All in all a fantastic day, enjoyed by all, and a very pleasing result. My thanks to Burnsie for the lovely photos.
